My Tinnitus – The beginning!

Ok lets start from the beginning and with how you may be feeling right now (and I know you might be  scared and think that reading this will just make it ring louder, but just hear me out).

So I am obviously unsure how your Tinnitus developed but for me, all of a sudden I went from blissful silence (or what I looked back on then as blissful silence, but realise now that there is never really any silence) to this constant noise in my right ear, and sometimes it felt like both ears and all over my head!  It was uncomfortable, painful and deafening!

The Noise!

Yours could be screeching (hopefully not), crunching, buzzing, a constant hum like noise or it could sound like a 100 crickets all having a party (that was one of the several types of noises I experienced).

It could be a wide range of noises, but these sounds are now in your life and only you can hear them, but be reassured that everyone does experience tinnitus at some point (and I can hear you rolling your eyes at me – yes I know they are the lucky ones and that it is only the temporary kind, but it still does happen and it is normal).

Anyway having all these strange noises going on with no control on the volume or how long it was going to go on for, was a very scary and isolating time for me, it kept me up at night and caused me to feel completely miserable, lost and incredibly anxious.

I would have given anything to return to the blissful silence I used to have (why didn’t I appreciate that more at the time, and surely I was a much happier person then.)

All I could think of was how am I going to live the rest of my life like this, how will I focus at work, laugh again, enjoy time with my friends and family, listen to music (going to a concert or a gig is surely out of the window now), watch television, maintain relationships and basically enjoy my life with this constant noise in my head.

The frantic search for a cure!

So, I began to franticly search the internet for help and advice.  I was willing to spend good money on anything that would end this torture.  I was speaking to anyone who would listen, and I actually didn’t care if they began to think I was going crazy.

My mission was to find an immediate cure, and even though I was told multiple times that there was no cure, I was determined that I was going to be the person that would find one!

Relief

Before you continue to follow my journey, please know that I am not a medical professional and that it is always best to check your Tinnitus symptoms with your GP or ENT specialist first, this is what I did and the reassurance I received was the first step in reaching my cure.

As you continue to read my blogs I hope that you will see that it is completely possible to experience peace and happiness again, because there is nothing tinnitus stops you from doing,  and it does get better!
